Think of a carnival haunted by lost souls and otherworldly entities nearing the stroke of midnight. That is my goal for another one of my projects. This project is an escape room style 90 minute adventure which will continue to evolve as I learn more. This closest (and my most favored) ambiance for what i am looking for can be found here on YouTube:
Another one with a different tone and direction -
I plan on uploading ambiance from the game including these sounds to YouTube and may include music used in and around particular locations of the game during the soundscapes. The audio will also be used in live most during the hosting of the game and its future variants.
To set the scene, ghostly whispers and voices, laughter, and more should be audible.
- evil clown laughter
- ghostly children or other people screaming / laughing / chatter
- attractions / rides such as (roller coaster, carousel, ferriswheel, haunted house dark ride, stadium)
- bells & whistles
- animatronics, (props, clowns, etc)
- voices coming from the audio of various attractions (does not need to be legible.)
- Crowds cheering / booing / applause.
- fireworks
Players have a choice of visiting 3 of a number of locations with each run of the game. These include:
- Caroucel
- market (for food and souvenirs where singing ghosts can be seen standing in front of a giant statue of the ringmaster
- hall of mirrors
- grand theater
- mystic menagerie with a number of animal statues
- Fun-house which has a problem with reality (switches back and forth from a somewhat normal fun house to a creepy grimy decaying one with alarms, turning gears and machinery, and flashing emergency lights. I hope to have looping music that sounds relatively normal but distorted and ominous in the decaying grimy version.
- Dream-world (which can likely already be done with current sound list in Echotopia)
Music I'm hoping to use should be your typical circus/carnival/amusement park stuff, but can sometimes distort and turn into more of a spooky track.
Haunted Dark Carnival
Hi Jericho_Dread!
This is another great idea for a library, a Carnival. The thing is that we don't really have any carnivals in my country, at least not the kind of carnivals you can see in the United States and we all have enjoyed form the movies. But, it shouldn't be too hard to fake most of the mechanical sounds with recordings from similar mechanical contraptions.
The lost souls and other paranormal sounds can be found in our Hauntings, Poltergeists, and EVP sound effects library. Lots of stuff there.
The mechanical sounds that you hear in your second example video can be made using pitched versions of the sounds included in our Factory Plants and Industrial Machines ambience kit, or in our Mechanical Workshops ambience kit. There are also some nice loops and Foley in the Laboratory Equipment and the Machine Components sound effect libraries. With a little bit of sound design, and in some cases not at all, you can easily fake any kind of mechanical sound found in carnival equipment and machinery. Those libraries that are included with Echotopia can be used to create any kind of carnival attraction, rides, animatronic, etc.
Talking crowds and chatter can be found in the Public Establishments ambience kit, inside the Elements folder. Some more diffused crowds can be found in the Urban Rooftops and Terraces ambience kit.
We also got some of the sounds you mention in your list already included in Echotopia:

- Evil clown laughter - We got similar sounds in the Miscellaneous folder inside the Cthulhu section.
- Ghostly children - Check the EVP in the Hauntings, Poltergeists, and EVP sound effects library.
- Oher people screaming-laughing - We got similar sounds in the Miscellaneous folder inside the Cthulhu section.
- Voices coming from the audio of various attractions (does not need to be legible.) - Check any urban style library, we got crowds in there.
