I created this small poll to get an idea of the audio channel configurations that you will use with Echotopia.

I understand that many of you will use Echotopia in more than one scenario, so you can vote up to two.

So choose the two most important configurations you will use.

I also voted for other, because I will mostly be using Bluetooth speakers. I have new UE Wonderboom, which I might use in conjunction with another bluetooth speaker if I can.

That's very good. I guess that kind of connection will be multiple identical stereo streams which is great when it comes to area coverage.

I'm planning to use my 7.1 surround sound but i have the center left and right speakers mounted high up on the wall. I'm not sure if that counts as a ceiling speaker or if you meant speakers built into the ceiling

It's a good question because I know you're experimenting with exotic setups, but for this poll, we simply count the official formats. So, "height" channels are defined as "the actual height channels from the format definition".

Here's the definition form Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Height_channels

So, to answer your question directly, using a 7.1 surround format but hanging the speakers higher than recommended is not considered a system that has actual height channels.

Only channel formats that define the height channels as individual channels used for the vertical positioning of sound sources are considered heights channels. Those usually refer to those channels in the format by x.s.h, i.e. 7.1.2 means 7 surround channels, 1 low-frequency effect channel (subwoofer), and 2 height channels.

oh that makes sense I have more speakers but I don't think that My receiver could handle 7.1.2
